Mario: One of the series' protagonists, Mario is essentially the group's "leader," although the Sages guide the group on where they should go or what they should do. He has good leadership qualities but isn't bossy or arrogant at all. Overall, Mario is a very good-hearted person who cares deeply about his friends and brother, Luigi.

Luigi: Another main protagonist in the series, Luigi is Mario's younger - and often overshadowed - brother. He tends to be silly, having a good sense of humor, but clumsy at times. However, like his brother, Luigi is a very kind person who respects and is respected by Mario as well as his friends.

Samus: Although she doesn't physically appear in the series until Dark Omen, Samus is another main character in the Super Mario trilogy. With her technology, she helps the Mario Bros. in many ways, although it's mostly locating things, whether they are items or even people. I wonder why she has a mustache, though...

Dark Samus:  Although he is the main antagonist of Corruption, Dark Samus surprisingly becomes one of the main protagonists in Dark Omen. Powered by the radioactive element Phazon, Dark Samus can fly, teleport, go into other dimensions, corrupt things with Phazon, and do many other things. He becomes the Sage of Honor, and is immensely powerful. He is around 250 years old despite his lack of aging, probably due to the Phazon inside his body. He has a very dark past.

Solid Snake: A stealth agent, Solid Snake is a legendary U.S. soldier, having served in the Green Berets, and the legendary FOXHOUND group. He was also trained in combat by the legendary Big Boss. His past being said, Solid Snake has been assigned a mission by Colonel Campbell to infiltrate the castle and get information on the "terrorist organization" known as the Death Alliance. However, Snake will find out that they are much more than just a terrorist organization. They are the greatest threat the universe has ever seen.

The Sages: They are the guardians of the Mushroom Kingdom's galaxy, if not the universe. There are 5 of them in all, and all but Dark Samus are at least 5,000 years old.

Felix: The Sage of Truth, Felix is the leader of the Sages and (unofficially) Mario's group, guiding them where they should go in the series from Dark Omen onwards. He possesses many powers, but his specialty is apparently finding out the truth in others, or possessing vast amounts of wisdom. He is identified by his blue appearance.

Xane: The Sage of Justice, Xane is Felix's right-hand man. Identified by his red appearance, Xane seems to be the most combat-oriented of the Sages, having immense physical, mental, and magical strength.

Zor: The Sage of Liberty, Zor is identified by his green appearance. He seems to be the more defensive Sage, being able to generate barriers to protect himself and/or others and take more hits than the other Sages.

Seren: The Sage of Caring, Seren seems to be the most compassionate Sage and health-conscious. His signature ability seems to be to heal himself and others very quickly, and can survive injuries that would usually kill someone. He is identified by his white appearance.

Phazon Mario: Thought to be a Phazon clone of Mario from the Phazon meteor crash at Bob-omb Battlefield, he was in reality Dark Samus in Mario's form due to having absorbed some of Mario's DNA. He was superior to Mario in everything at first, until Mario became strong enough to eventually defeat him.

Rozen: Formerly the Sage of Sorrow, Rozen betrays the Sages with his greed for power and becomes the Sage of Darkness after mastering dark magic and becoming immensely powerful. He is the main antagonist of Dark Omen, the leader of the Dark Army, created the element known as Phazon, and was revealed to have a bitter past with Dark Samus. He may have used all of his powers as he could to defeat Mario & Co. and possibly destroy the galaxy, if not the universe, but Mario's anger turned him into the legendary and all-powerful Omega Mario, and killed Rozen with his new and god-like powers.

Adrian: The main antagonist of Atonement, little is known about him. However, we know right now that he is a demon that is at least 5,000 years old, was previously involved in a conflict with the Sages 5,000 years ago and eventually imprisoned by them. However, he recently escaped, and apparently is looking for an artifact known as the "Key to the Center of the Universe." According to Samus and the Sages, he is extremely powerful, much stronger than Rozen, and is believed by all to be the greatest evil ever known. He is currently recognized by his reddish cloud-like appearance, as he hasn't revealed his true form yet.
